Dolly Rebecca Parton

Dolly Rebecca Parton was born on January 19 1946 in Pittman Center, Tennessee and raised in Sevierville, Tennessee to Avie Lee Parton, who was a housewife & Robert Lee Parton, a tobacco farmer. She was present on Knoxville TV at 12 years old. At 13, she was recording on an obscure label, and singing on the Grand Ole Opry. She relocated to Nashville in 1964 to begin her singing career after graduating from high school. She began to fall in love with Carl Dean, who ran an asphalt-paving business; they were married on May 30 in 1966, and remain together. Her singing in 1967 caught the interest of Porter Wagoner, who hired her to be a part of his show, The Porter Wagoner Show (1961). She was a part of the show for seven years. Their duets became well-known and she was asked to perform alongside him at the Grand Ole Opry. When her 1970 hit "Joshua" hit the top spot at #1, her fame was just too high to compete with the fame of his. In 1974, she went by herself and recorded duets with him. She separated from him to become a solo artist in 1974. Dolly was a popular singer/songwriter. Dolly received numerous Country Music Association awards (1968 1970, 1970 and 1971, 1975, and 1976). This petite (5'0") beauty was a natural on television, and by the mid-1970s she began appearing regularly on television specials and talk shows before getting her own, Dolly (1976). In 1977, Dolly got her first Grammy award: Best Female Country Vocal Performance for her track "Here You Come Again." Dolly made her debut in a film in the film 9 to 5 in 1980. She was nominated for an Oscar for the title track and also for Grammy Awards 2/3: Best Country Song and Best Female Country Vocal Performance. More fame came from her appearances in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (1982) and as in Rhinestone (1984) and Rhinestone (1984), with the song "Tennessee Homesick Blues". Dolly Parton Enterprises, worth $100 million, is her principal. Dollywood was established in Pigeon Forge in Tennessee in 1986 to celebrate her Smoky-Mountain heritage. She starred in the TV show Dolly (1987 TV Show) as her character. For "Trio" she was awarded the Best Country Performance Duo or Group with Vocals Grammy in 1988.
